Biography of Mohammad Bagheri
In 1994 Dr. Bagheri discovered in an Iranian library a hitherto unknown letter by the famous fifteenth-century Islamic mathematician Jamshid al-Kashi. The letter was published in Persian in his book, From Samarkand to Kashan: al-Kashi's Letters to his Father, Tehran 1996, and in English translation with commentary in Historia Mathematica 24 (1997), pp. 241-256. He also published a dictionary of mathematical terms: A Vocabulary of Mathematics (English-Persian, Persian-English), Tehran 1984, which was reprinted several times. Since 1995 Dr. Bagheri has been working on the Jamic Zij of Kushyar ibn Labban. His PhD dissertation defended in December 2006 in the University of Utrecht contains the edition, translation and commentary of Books I and IV of the Jaimc Zij. Between 1995 and 2006, he visited the Department of Mathematics of the University of Utrecht six times in connection with his research. From September 2006 to January 2007 he worked as a research fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Studies in Wassenaar, on the edition and translation of the remaining Books II and III of Kushyar's Jamic Zij. In the period 2008-2012, he was the Chief Editor of Tarikh-e Elm (Iranian Journal for the History of Science) published by the History of Science Institute of the University of Tehran where he is an adjunct member of the Scientific Board. Since 2012, he has been the Chief Editor of the journal Miras-e Elmi (Scientific Heritage), published by the "Written Heritage Research Institute" (Tehran).
